On Wednesday’s Morning Focus John Cooke spoke with Meave Lewis of One in Four about the Child Protection reviews by the Catholic Church’s National Board for Safeguarding Children of two religious congregations and six dioceses published yesterday 
The Reviews primary focus is on current child safeguarding practices within the Catholic Church, and show that in the main huge strides have been made in ensuring that children are safer than ever before from sexual harm
870 allegations of abuse have been made against 325 members of the Christian Brothers since the beginning of 1975.

Ennis woman Phil Moloney went to Uganda in 1993 and worked as a teacher at the Hospice Africa Uganda for 3 years
There she met Martha Rabwoni – the longest serving nurse of Hospice Africa Uganda – and a strong friendship formed
Hospice Africa Uganda is a model for hospice care in Africa – its founder Dr Anne Merriman last week received the Presidential Award for Distinguished Service overseas
Phil and Martha, who is visiting Ireland for the event, joined John in studio to discuss the work that goes on at the hospice- and the importance of it.

A Broad History of Narrow Street is a book about the history of Abbey Street in Ennis
It’s author – Brian Spring, a teacher in the Christian Brothers, joined John in studio to speak about the research, thehistory and share a few anecdotes from the publication
The book takes a look back as far as the 13th Century and it will be launched tomorrow night at the Front Bar of the Queen’s Hotel, Ennis at 8pm 

Eric Shaw of the Clare Roots Society also joined John in studio
Clare Roots have had a busy year. – This book will be the 11th in a three-year programme
They had a genealogy conference in Ennis in April as part of the Gathering, unveiled a Famine Stone in Drumcliffe and a plaque in Garraunakilla in the Market area of the town
Eric gave a flavour of the projects coming up in 2014.
