Nicholas Quirke worked in England for years but came home to retire in Kilkenny
He became mystified by parochial houses and presbyteries of Ireland and travelled a round trip of 70,000 miles to each of the 26 dioceses and took photographs of 1,750 parochial houses
It enraged him at the time that these magnificent Georgian mansions were built at a time when the Irish Catholics were poor and emigrating
He spoke with John about this experience
