Morning Focus – Wednesday, November 4, 2015

This week, the Irish Nurses and Midwives' Organisation (INMO) announced its intention to hold a national ballot on industrial action. Gavin spoke to Mary Fogarty of INMO Midwest.
Morning Focus took a special look at the impact of the abolition of town councils. Gavin was joined for the discussion by Cllr Ian Lynch, Independent member of West Clare MD (and former Kilrush Town Councillor); Paddy Collins former FG member of Kilkee Town Council; and Frankie Neylon former Independent member of Ennis Town Council.
Gavin heard that more younger people are presenting with suicide risk symptoms over the last two years. He spoke to Tom McEvoy of Pieta House – the suicide and self-harm crisis centre. Tom said the situation in the Midwest reflects that in the rest of the country and staff at Pieta House agree that the age at which people present to them fluctuates year-on-year. Tom says that while they are seeing younger people presenting, this is regarded as a positive thing as it means people are seeking help.
Cllr Mary Howard joined Gavin to discuss an initiative to collect musical instruments for Colaiste Muire, Ennis. She also shared her views on her possible candidacy for Fine Gael in the General Election.
Gavin also heard about Whiskey company set to launch in Cooraclare. He spoke to Louise McGuane of The Chapel Gate Irish Whisky Company.
Bank of Ireland announced its intention to restrict cash withdrawals and lodgements in its branches, according to the front of today's Irish Independent. The move angered its many customers and groups representing the elderly. Gavin heard more from Charlie Weston Personal Finance Editor with the Irish Independent.
Gavin was joined in studio for a special interview with Tony Griffin, former Clare hurler and All-Star Founder of the Tony Griffin Foundation – now operating under the title Give To Live in Canada.
Caroline Collins Of Ennis Bookshop joined Gavin to review ‘That’s Life’ by Marty Whelan and ‘The Little Red Chairs’ by Edna O’Brien.
