On The Afternoon Show today Clare FM’s Gavin Grace was joined by the Friday Panel – Verena Tarpey from Rape Crisis Mid West, Aoife Madden from Madden Furniture and the Ennis Business Forum and Brian Flynn, presenter of The Late Train on Clare FM. The main talking point on today’s panel was the public’s reaction to the Anglo tapes. The panel were asked – as calls for a banking enquiry are made, would sanctioning bankers who were in charge before the economic collapse make any difference? Also for discussion this afternoon was the issue of mortgage arrears. Under a new code of conduct for banks, customers in mortgage arrears could lose their trackers as part of a debt deal, while the there will now be a shorter period of time before legal action against a borrower can begin. The government has defended the code, saying it’s necessary to address the crisis, the panel were asked – is it unfair? This week we also heard about how 94 million euro was won in the Euromillions. We asked – what would you do with it, and would you want it in the first place? The panel also tackled the topic of the recession. According to new CSO figures, Ireland is back in recession. The panel discussed, what, if anything makes you optimistic that this country will get out of the economic mess?
The Friday Feature this week was all about style this Summer. Stylist Tess Purcell joined Gavin in studio to give tips and advice on Summer attire, particularly for Summer festivals, Summer holidays and answered the enduring question – What to pack and what not to pack!
Conor O’Donoghue is the Overseas Programme Director with Bothar and spoke with Gavin about a major cycling event taking place in East Clare over the weekend. The ‘Rothar 4 Bóthar’ cycle through Clare, Limerick and Tipperary on Saturday week next is the latest fund-raising initiative to assist Bóthar in developing a creamery that will help sustain an entire community in Rusizi, Rwanda next year. The 80km, three-county cycle will commence at UL at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 29th next and take a circular route into Co. Clare, taking in the villages of Broadford and Bodyke before a one-hour, midway break at Tuamgraney. For more details call 061 414142.
17 year old Dylan Bickerton is one of the organisers of Freeflow Youth Graffiti Jam, which is taking place this Saturday at Scariff Riverside (beside the play park) from 12 to 6pm. It’s a Youth Arts event organised by local volunteers and young graffiti artists. The event provides a platform for young artists to show their talent in a public arena and draws young people together through mutual interests.
