The Afternoon Show – Friday May 3rd 2013

Today’s edition of The Afternoon Show featured our Friday Panel – Clare FM’s Gavin Grace was joined in studio by Caroline Browne from the Irish Wheelchair Association, Clare Branch, Rita McInerney, Ennis Chamber CEO and Doonbeg native and Brian Flynn, presenter of Clare FM’s The Late Train and Musician to discuss the major news stories of the past week.

Among the topics for discussion today was the case of terminally ill woman Marie Fleming, who this week lost her Supreme Court challenge to the ban on assisted suicide.  The panel were asked – should people be given the right to die when they wish? The panellists also spoke about how the number of Clare residents, claiming unemployment benefits, has fallen to its lowest level in over four years.  We asked – have we turned a corner?  Also ten days of commemorations of the Famine begin in West Clare tonight. As an increasingly multi-cultural nation, are we still in touch with these important parts of our past?
