Today’s Afternoon Show featured The Friday Panel; joining Máire in studio was Brian Flynn from Clare FM’s The Late Train, Actor Eleanor Feely and Michelle Madden from Ennis Chamber. They discussed how Christmas comes but once a year – but it seems it arrives earlier year on year! The panel were asked – are we losing sight of what Christmas really means and is the early start putting more pressure on us? They also discussed how there’s concern children are being given alcoholic drinks at Christmas without their parents’ knowledge. Drink Aware claims one in five 10 to 14 year-olds say a relative has allowed them to drink during the festive period – but most parents deny giving permission. The panel also talked about how Ennis has been named as one of the top ten tourism towns in Ireland. The county town was the only Clare nominee in the Failte Ireland initiative, which aimed to find Ireland’s best tourism town. Ennis was up against the Mayo towns of Mulranny, Murrisk and Westport as well as Cobh, Drogheda, Kilkenny, Letterkenny and Kenmare and Tralee for the overall prize. Ennis lost out on the win but the panel recognised the fact that the town is on the tourist’s radars. They also looked ahead to the final Clare game in the Munster Football Championship – as Cratloe take on Dr Crokes of Kerry on Sunday in the Munster Club Football Final.
Stylist Tess Purcell was also in studio as it’s Christmas party season. She gave us all we need to know for seasonal trends and what style choices we should make for the holidays. Tess will be offering more style advice at a special event in Kilshanny House from 8pm on Friday December 6th . The Fun and Fashion night will feature a style and image presentation along with local pop up shops showcasing their wares. Admission is free.
Miriam Lambert, the well-known Puppeteer brings her show, The Gingerbread Man, to Glor tomorrow and joined Máire on the show to talk about the art. In The Gingerbread Man Miriam, using herself as a humanette, bakes the gingerbread. The freshly baked biscuit runs, eluding the hungry grasp of everyone-until he meets a very clever fox. Miriam has been at the heart of the Irish puppetry industry since her childhood, having grown up with the Lambert Puppet Theatre in Dublin. Trained by her mentor and father, the late Master puppeteer Eugene Lambert, creator of Bosco, she has played an integral part in the creation of many of the legendary puppet characters and performances in the renowned Lambert productions. The Gingerbread man comes to Glor tomorrow for two shows – 11.30 and 1pm
Barbershop Quartet Chill was also in studio. John Hennessy, Stephen Molloy, Dalian Rynne and Oisin O’Cualáin have been together since school – and competed in Clare’s Got Talent 2010 – and performed at Electric Picnic. They’ve since progressed to college but stayed together and continue to perform. They’ll be at the West Clare Gallery in Ennistymon tomorrow for a performance as part of The Happening.
