The Afternoon Show – Friday September 13th 2013

On today’s Afternoon Show Máire was joined by the Friday Panel.  Joining her in studio was Aine Mae O’Mahony  from Clahane, Gearoid Mannion from Ennis and Manuel di Lucia from Kilkee. Among the topics they discussed was Clare’s bid for All Ireland glory. Clare Local Authorities today announced a joint homecoming celebration for the Clare U21 and Senior Hurling teams who both face All Ireland Final deciders in the coming weeks. The joint homecoming will take place on Sunday 29th September at the Fairgreen with a time to be confirmed closer to the date. Planned activities include music and other entertainment. The panel discussed the buzz around the county following the nail biting clash with Cork and looked ahead to the replay. The panel also spoke about how Giovanni Trapattoni is leaving his role as manager of the Republic of Ireland football team. The 74-year-old Italian and his assistant manager Marco Tardelli are parting company with the FAI – by mutual consent. Martin O’Neill is the firm favourite among the bookies to succeed Trap.

John Lucey is the Principal of Stagecoach Clare and joined the show to talk about the role of drama, song and dance in the development of children and how it can be a way for many to boost their self confidence. UK rock band Little Mammoths were also guests of The Afternoon Show. Band members Matt Owens (Guitar & Vocals), Barndog (Guitar), Willy Sox (Bass) and Del (Drums) joined Máire in studio to talk about their Irish tour. The band play two nights in Clare this weekend – they play The Greyhound in Kilkee tonight and they’re at Kenny’s in Lahinch tomorrow night. The group are currently touring around Ireland on their Deaf, Broke and Drunk tour – they’ve been to Dunmore East, Dingle, Galway and Sligo so far and are rounding off their trip to Ireland here in Co. Clare.  Little Mammoths are no strangers to the county and spend much of their time in Lahinch.  Their gigs are free admission and you can find out more details regarding dates and venues on their facebook page – https://www.facebook.com/wearelittlemammoths
