The Afternoon Show – Thursday October 24th 2013

On today’s Afternoon Show Donnagh Gregson of Clare Tourism Forum and Teresa Browne of East Clare Tourism joined Máire following the news that Ryanair is to open 8 new routes from Shannon. The airline says the move will support 300 new on site jobs and deliver an extra 300,000 passengers. The routes will go to Berlin, Faro, Fuerteventura, Krakow, Munich, Nice, Paris and Warsaw from April of next year. Ryanair says today’s announcement is in direct response to the Government’s decision to scrap the 3 euro travel tax. The airline also says it’s in discussions with Cork, Dublin, Kerry and Knock airports and hopes to announce further routes in coming weeks. The Clare Tourism Forum, the group responsible for tourism marketing and the promotion of County Clare, has welcomed today’s announcement saying that it will help to sustain thousands of jobs in the local tourism and hospitality sector.
