On today’s edition of The Afternoon Show Máire Moynahan spoke with Helen Browne , a Clinical Nurse Specialist and Chairperson and Cofounder of the National Infertility Support and Information Group. They discussed how 1 in 6 people are affected by fertility issues in Ireland and how every year approximately 2,000 Irish couples receive IVF treatment. The NISIG say the subject of infertility is still considered taboo in Ireland – this stigma has led to patients becoming afraid to speak about their issues. The are holding a National Conference on Infertility this Saturday in Thomond Park, Limerick – many international, independent experts will be speaking on all aspects of infertility from the medical and psychological issues to lack of funding and legislation. Mary Geraty is the Communications Manager with Calor who have announced the second ever Community Champion Competition. It’s an all-island initiative where Calor are calling out to communities across Clare to help find local champions across the county who work tirelessly each and every day to improve the lives of the people around them. Nominees could be in with a chance at a prize fund of over €10,000 for their chosen charity or cause! Catriona Lowry also joined the show today for a look at what’s worth watching at the cinema, and gave us updates on some showbiz news. She reviewed the latest movie from Richard Curtis, “About Time”, which stars Domhnall Gleeson and Rachel McAdams and also discussed the new One Direction documentary.
Morgan Roughan is the Organist with Knockerra Choir and spoke to Máire about how the choir members have organised a special gathering event this weekend. On Saturday September 14th they’re having a gathering of all past and present members. There will be mass at 6pm followed by refreshments in the hall afterwards. The purpose of the event is to honour the people throughout the years who have given their time freely to the choir. Some of the members have been in the choir for over 50 years.
Paul “Calso” Callaghan, Chef, Food Blogger and Writer was also in studio to answer all your baking and cookery questions and offered us tips and advice on recipes. Today he discussed how to make light fluffy scones, how to ensure you make a good banana bread. He also talked about how to cook pork and keep it juicy.
