The Afternoon Show – Wednesday October 10th

On The Afternoon Show today Vincent Ryan, Journalist with the Irish Examiner spoke to Clare FM’s Gavin Grace following the news that Bill Cullen’s car empire has gone into receivership. Ulster Bank confirmed last night it has appointed a receiver to Glencullen Holdings. Mr Cullen, who fronted The Apprentice on TV3, became Renault’s distributor in Ireland in 1986. A statement issued on his behalf said the news reflects the poor state of the motor industry, and that he’d extended his thanks to customers, staff and supporters after 55 years in the sector.

Courts Correspondent Francesca Comyn discussed how the publishers of an autobiography by the late Gerry Ryan’s former partner have agreed to stop the book from going on sale for two weeks. Melanie Verwoerd’s book ‘When We Dance’ was due to hit the shelves from today. However music promoter Dave Kavanagh is trying to restrain its publication claiming it’s defamatory. The High Court has put the case back until October 24th to give the publishers time to put forward a defence. In the mean time the book will not go on sale. Francesca attended the High Court sitting this morning and described to Gavin what took place.
