The Today Show – Friday June 29th

On The Today Show this afternoon, Clare FM’s Gavin Grace was joined by Deirdre Carmody, a runner and charity fundraiser from Kilkee. Deirdre is fundraising ahead of her trip to Ethiopia in November to take part in the Great Ethiopian Run in aid of Self Help Africa. The Great Ethiopian Run is an annual 10k run held in Addis Ababa. She discussed her love of running and her running repertoire to date and how she ran a marathon in the presence of Haile Gebre Selassie, who is regarded universally as the greatest distance runner of all time.  No stranger to fundraising – she has undertaken numerous runs in aid of local and national charities over the years.  Next Friday July 6th she’ll hold a coffee morning and cake sale at Myles Creek in Kilkee to kick start her fundraising for her trip to Africa. The coffee morning runs from 10am to 12.30pm and all are welcome!

Kashyar Darvich is the Director of the internationally acclaimed documentary, The Dalai Lama Renaissance. The documentary will be screened in Ennis this Monday July 2nd – one of only 6 places getting to show this multi-award winning film. Narrated by Harrison Ford it recounts how forty of the world’s most innovative thinkers travelled to India in the Himalayan Mountains to meet with the Dalai Lama to solve many of the world’s problems. Winner of 10 awards at film festivals around the world, it is the official selection of over 35 international film festivals. It will be shown in the Old Ground Hotel on July 2nd at 8pm followed by questions and answers with the director.

This is all part of a major increase in size and scope of the festival, building towards the 2014 millennial celebrations of Brian Ború. Singer and Entertainer Richie Hayes also spoke to Gavin. Richie is taking to the stage this Sunday night in Killaloe for the festival finale.  His performance starts at 8pm and will be followed by a ceili.
