The Today Show – Monday March 5th

Ann Cronin from Ennis was in studio with The Today Show and Gavin Grace to talk about the Working Abroad Expo, which took place in Dublin at the weekend. Ann gave her impression of the jobs expo and spoke about her own situation.  Ann wants to emigrate to Canada to find work and improve her and her son’s prospects for the future. More than 12 thousand people turned up at Dublin’s RDS on Saturday – 2000 of those had interviews, and 250 were offered jobs on the spot. It got so busy that at one stage entry had to be limited to those already in the queues, and those with prepaid tickets. The Cork Expo has already sold out – only those who have prepaid online tickets should attend as there will be no further cash ticket sales at the event on Wednesday. However those interested can view all employment/employer details online at www.workingabroadexpo.com

Clare FM’s Dermot Hogan took to the streets to gauge how the people of Clare feel about the Irish language – Today marks the first day of Seachtain na Gaeilge.  The two week annual event to promote the language got underway and you’ll hear some gaeilge daily on Clare FM

Paul “Calso” Callaghan – our resident Chef and Food Blogger joined Gavin in studio to give us his recipe for bangers and mash – with a twist! Paul also gave us some tips and advice on how to jazz up an average dinner by using your imagination! For more details and recipes see Paul’s blog on http://thesustainablelarder.blogspot.com/

Also this afternoon Gavin was joined in studio by cast members of a new play from Newmarket on Fergus. Playwright Kelly O’Keeffe, actors John Higgins and Mark McNulty and Siobhan O’Driscoll, the Community Development and Youth Worker with Obair Newmarket-on-Fergus were in studio to talk about how the play came to fruition. “Liberty’s Ladder” is written by Kelly O’Keeffe and features the acting talent of locals from Newmarket on Fergus. The story is based on the events of 9/11 in New York and focuses on the history, heritage and days of emigration and portrays the strong connections between the United States and Ireland.  It also features traditional Irish songs and music. Kelly and cast will take the show to New York for St. Patrick’s Day.

Brendan Teeling is the Assistant Director of The Library Council; he spoke to Gavin about how young people are continuing to read. It’s not just computer games and tv that young people turn to in order to pass the time – they are still reading and more importantly are still borrowing books from local libraries. Figures released by The Library Council show that children’s authors dominated the “most borrowed” list at the 350 public libraries nationwide in 2011
