The Today Show – Thursday April 26th

On The Today Show we continued our featured interviews on the issue of suicide and mental health awareness.  Clare Fm’s Máire Moynahan spoke with Owen O’Mahony, a volunteer with Clare Suicide Bereavement Support. Clare Suicide Bereavement Support is a group of trained, non-professional volunteers who befriend and support individuals, families and communities bereaved by suicide. The Suicide may be recent or in the past. Máire visited the group’s centre in Innovation House in Roslevan, Ennis and spoke to Owen who is one of 8 volunteers with the group. The volunteers offer one to one or family support in people’s homes or at their premises in Roslevan and offer a completely confidential service. Owen discussed the range of supports on offer through the group, including the work they do in the community and talked about how people bereaved by suicide can support each other through their group meetings. Clare Suicide Bereavement Support (Clare SBS) can be contacted by telephone or text on the following numbers 086 – 056 5373 or 087 – 369 8315

Also on The Today Show we heard another episode of “Through the Ages”. The “Through the Ages” series features the school children of Clare – where today’s pupils from across the county bring to life memoirs and folklore collected by students 75 years ago as part of an oral history project set in motion by the Folklore Commission in 1937. The stories include tales, traditions, old cures, riddles and jokes – and are reanimated by today’s pupils from across Co. Clare. Today we heard from the students of Ballynacally National School
