Sean Hayes from Kimihil, an unemployed father of two, spoke to Gavin Grace about his difficulties with getting a job in today’s climate. Sean’s main issue with being unemployed is the difficulty of actually locating a job despite many people thinking it should be relatively easy to return to the workforce. The discussion was based on today’s live register figures for Clare. Gavin also spoke with Michael in Kilfenora who contacted the show and Martin in O’Briens Bridge.  Both men talked about their own personal experience of unemployment in Clare, while Linda also contacted the Today Show and spoke about the effect joblessness is having on her family. Dermot Hayes, who volunteers with the Clare Action for Unemployment also spoke to Gavin about his experiences and about the different training and work schemes that are available

Sheila Clancy, a Public Health Nurse who’s based in Kilkee talked about her role in a new documentary series.  Sheila joined Gavin in studio and talked about her daily working life. features in tonight’s episode of “The Nurse” and the programme opens with scenes of Sheila doing her rounds in Kilkee.  The documentary series follows the daily lives & struggles of Irish Public Health Nurses and the patients who need their care, from cradle to grave. Apart from her role as Public Health Nurse, Sheila is also a teacher of basic life support, training people how to use life saving techniques and defibrillators.

John Lillis of the Clare Youth Service joined Gavin in studio to describe the new music appreciation classes available at the service which will focus on listening and understanding music, theory, recording, sound engineering and concert promotion. The class will run for 8 weeks, and no experience or musical skills are needed. It is aimed at young people between the ages of 14 and 18, and will give them an introduction to the skills needed to organize events, analyse music, record and prepare for performance. There is no charge to attend the class, and students will be asked to complete certain practical and written tasks in order to achieve FETAC level 3 certification. Clare FM’s Stephen McDermott, from the 11 to 1 Show joined us for his weekly film review, where he reviewed and critiqued the latest release at the cinema – including J. Edgar featuring Leonardo di Caprio.
