The Today Show – Thursday June 7th

On today’s program, Gavin spoke with Jim West, organiser of the International Quilt Festival which is being held at NUI Galway this weekend.  As well as taking the helm of this unique event, Jim also told us about his career working on cruise ships (the best place to go on one is Alaska, he tells us), and his memories of meeting and becoming friends with Edmund Hillary, the first man to climb Mount Everest.

Thursday’s program also saw us check in with preparations on Pigtown, a play being held at the Belltable in Limerick.  The production is community based with most of the actors not being professionally trained, while three of those come from Clare.  The director is also Mountshannon man Paul Brennan.  Pigtown runs at the Belltable on most nights for the remainder of June.

Meanwhile, for those of you who prefer films, Clare FM’s Stephen McDermott recommended Snow White and the Huntsman this week, though not overwhelmingly, while The Lady in Black was given his enthusiastic support as to what you should rent on DVD this weekend.  We also had the latest instalment of Through the Ages, this time from Querrin National School.  If you missed it, then you can check it out in our podcasts section now.
