The Today Show – Wednesday January 11th

On the Today Show Political Editor of the Irish Independent, Fionnan Sheahan, spoke to Clare FM’s Gavin Grace about government talks on selling off the failed e-voting machines. The cabinet today discussed the possibility of selling off machines to Irish themed pubs around the globe in a bid to recoup some of the money spent on them.  The machines have so far cost the taxpayer almost 55 million Euro in purchase and storage costs. The Department of the Environment will publish advertisements to invite tenders for the sale of the equipment or for it to be recycled. The Coalition is hoping to get rid of the machines, associated with former Fianna Fail ministers Noel Dempsey and Martin Cullen, once and for all, by the summer. Clare FM’s Dermot Hogan took to the streets to find out local opinion on the issue. He asked the people of Clare how they feel about the e-voting debacle and about the waste of tax payers money.

Dr. Máire Finn of the Ennis Family Medical Centre joined Gavin in studio for our weekly medical feature. This week’s topic was the effects of smoking. Máire discussed the health risks associated with smoking, some startling facts on what illnesses and diseases can be attributed to smoking and gave tips and advice on how to quit the habit.
