Clare INTO Rep Says Change In School Contact Tracing Should Be Delayed Until After Midterm Break

Clare’s INTO representative believes a change in contact tracing for Covid-19 in primary schools should be delayed until after the midterm break at the earliest.

From Monday, under 12s attending primary schools or childcare facilities and have no symptoms won’t have to restrict movements from Monday, while automatic contact tracing will also be discontinued.

The Chief Medical Officer says, given the importance of education, now is the right time to make the change as the data shows the facilities are low risk.

There were 90 new outbreaks in schools last week – up 50 on the previous week, while the number in childcare facilities fell from 22 to nine over the same period.

Clare INTO Representative, Brendan Horan believes a discrepancy between HSE Figures and HSPC weekly school testing reports is particularly concerning and he believes this needs to be rectified before changes are made to contact tracing.
