Concern Proposed New Policing Model Will Pull Gardaí Out Of Rural Clare

It’s feared an amalgamation of Clare’s policing into a new super division could pull Gardaí out of rural areas and into the cities.

The restructuring of the force is reportedly part of a proposed new model which would see the number of Garda Divisions cut from 28 to 19 and the reduction of Garda Regions from 6 six to 4.

It would see the Clare and Tipperary division merged as part of the greater Southern Region with Limerick, Kerry, Cork West and North and Cork City.

It would also potentially see a reduction in the number of Chief Superintendents and Deputy Chair of Clare’s Joint Policing Committee, Councillor Alan O’Callaghan is concerned about what this could mean:
