Official Figures Show Growth Rate Of Coronavirus Is Slowing In Clare

Official data suggests that efforts to flatten the COVID-19 curve are working in Clare.

While there are now over 250 cases of the virus confirmed here, a Clare FM analysis of the official data shows the rate of growth of the disease has slowed.

The first confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Clare came on March 5th.

Yet it would be April 1st before the total number of cases here hit 50.

After that, the growth in case numbers showed a swift increase.

100 cases were confirmed 11 days later, on April 12th, while after a further ten days, the number had climbed to 200.

But since then, it’s taken 13 days for the next fifty cases to be confirmed here, with the 250th case registered on May 4th, according to the Health Protection Surveillance Centre.

Other factors could be at play, but the slow pace of growth is a welcome endorsement of local efforts to suppress the disease.

Other figures are also encouraging.

When population levels are taken into account, only Waterford, Wexford, Galway, Kerry and Roscommon have lower rates of the virus than the Banner.
