Hundreds of kilometres of roads in Clare have been found to have major defects.
The findings have come from a report by the National Oversight and Auditing Committee, which looks at the performance of local authorities nationwide.
This report looks at regional, local primary and local secondary routes and grades routes in four distinct bands.
For the busiest of these, regional roads, 7% of all such routes in Clare are found to be in the worst condition, rated at no higher than four out of ten.
That’s also the case for 3% of local primary roads and 6% of local secondary routes.
In all cases, these figures are in line with or ahead of the national average and the number of roads graded as a 9 or 10 is even higher.
The report also shows that €10.27 million was spent on strengthening or resealing almost 250km of roads in Clare last year.
