There’s been a 10% increase in the number of homeless people in Clare in the past month.
The latest figures from the Department of Housing shows there were 67 people availing of supports from homeless services in Clare at the end of September.
291 people across the Midwest were homeless during the last week in September – 67 of these here in Clare.
It’s a jump from 60 at the end of August.
According to Clare County Council’s management report, 15 of these people are in Westbrook, with 13 in Laurel Lodge – the other 39 are located in Cusack Lodge, Ashfield Court and other forms of emergency accommodation around the county.
There’s been an increase of 5 families looking for a home in the Midwest in the past month – 46 families are now considered homeless in this region, with 17 of these located in this county.
More than half of these families are single parent families.
180 people in the Midwest have left homelessness so far this year according to the Department, with homelessness as a whole down by over 10% on this time last year.
Nationally there’s been an overall drop of individuals declared homeless last month – but a slight increase in the number of families now in emergency accommodation.
