Hundreds of Clare residents who are waiting for a decision on their passport applications are being told that they should be dealt with within 8 weeks.
Their work has been deemed an essential service and work is underway to scale up its operation.
The latest figures show there are just under 90,000 applications on hand, while last week the Dáil heard there are around 1,000 applications from Clare, with 100 of these coming from first-time applicants.

Head of the Passport Office Siobhan Byrne says they’ll look to reduce this number of the coming weeks.
