Health cutbacks – totalling less than initially planned – will be announced this morning.
It follows the approval of the HSE Service Plan by the Health Minister James Reilly.

The plan to reduce the number of medical cards and save €113m has been scaled back – with the cuts now totalling €25m.
Some of the shortfall will be made up by the Department of Social Protection – it’s not paying out as much in social welfare because of the fall in the number of people on the dole.
But cuts of more than €500m will still have to be made – and the extent of those will be announced this morning.
