21% Increase In Overcrowding At Region’s Main Hospital

There's been a 21% increase in overcrowding at the Region's main hospital in the month of March.

Figures from the Irish Nurses an Midwives Organisation show 710  people were waiting on trolleys at University Hospital Limerick last month, up from 558 the same time last year.

Nurses say despite all the plans to date, the service continues to face intolerable levels of overcrowding.

They've blamed the continuing lack of beds and staff right across the system for the rise – which they say continues to compromise patient care.
