Clare County Council has confirmed that it has completed it’s roadworks program for 2010.
In the past 12 months, the council spent over 22.5 million euro on improvement works for the county’s roads.- which represents an eleven percent increase on the original allocation from government.
It comes just two months after the local authority was accused of dishonesty over its road spend with claims the money could have been lost if it wasn’t used up by the year’s end.
The Council drew down 22.687 million euro for it’s roadworks program last year.
15.6 million euro came from the Department of transport, and the remainder was given to the council by the NRA
Among the projects to benefit from this were the N68 at Edenvale, Caherea, Lissycasey and Kilrush and the N67 at Moyasta.
Safety improvements were made in Kilrush and Ennis while works will take place on the N85 at Ballyduffbeg, Inagh on the N85.
Meanwhile, Senior Engineer with the Council Tom Tiernan has confirmed that works at Blake’s Corner could not be carried out because of complexities involved meaning 300,000 euro allocated for that project was not drawn down
500,000 allocated in respect of the Killaloe by-Pass/Shannon Crossing went unspent because documentation was being considered by the Department.
