A further eight COVID-related deaths were recorded here in the week to February 5th.

These CSO figures show 37 people lost their lives in Clare as a result of COVID-19 in the four weeks to February 5th.

In the last of those weeks, eight people lost their lives, while the figure for the previous week has been adjusted upwards by two, meaning the overall death toll here has increased by a total of ten to 85.

The median age of those who died is 83 years old.

Today’s figures do show a continued decline in the virus, with case numbers at their lowest level since before Christmas.

There’s also been a further drop in the number of cases linked with outbreaks.

Meanwhile, seperate figures show that Clare has had the ninth highest COVID-19 death rate of any county.

The Department of Health has told RTE Nuacht that, at a time when it had registered 81 COVID deaths in Clare, this accounted for the ninth highest death rate of any county in Ireland.

That’s lower than only Cavan, which registered the highest death rate, and also Monaghan, Kildare, Dublin, Mayo, Carlow, Donegal and Limerick.
