Over 500 dogs were put down in Clare last year, but the figures are improving.
The Clare ISPCA say 1 thousand, one hundred and 99 dogs passed through their services at the Dog Pound in Ennis in 2013 – with 582 of them reclaimed by their owners or re-homed.

Others were given a second chance through local animal rescue groups, but more than 500 dogs who couldn’t be rehomed or were deemed too dangerous were put to sleep.
Clare ISPCA warden Frankie Coote is hoping the number of dogs being brought the pound will continue to fall this year.
