The number of sick children waiting for beds at hospital emergency units around the country has increased by 700 per cent in just over three years.

That’s one of the findings by the Irish Association for Emergency Medicine, which has criticised the "dangerous levels" of overcrowding at such facilities.
The research shows that children are sometimes waiting on trolleys for over 12 hours – and in some cases, up to 24 hours.
