From July 1st until September 30th of this year, local authorities across Ireland gave 8,018 new dwelling units the go ahead – a significant rise on the 4,739 in the same period last year.

That’s made up of both houses and apartment units but that welcome jump in figures isn’t being experienced in all parts.

Here, Clare County Council granted permission for 72 new houses in Quarter 3 – the exact same figure as that quarter of last year.

They’re among 238 successful applications to the planning office here, which also includes 82 buildings classed as ‘other’, which may include businesses, 60 extensions and 24 conversions.

Though there was no annual increase in the number of homes given the go ahead, it is a rise of eight on the previous quarter and brings the total number of planning applications for homes in Clare up to the end of September to 212.
