7500 Clare Homeowners Still Have Not Paid Household Charge

Clare homeowners are more compliant than most, when it comes to paying the household charge, as new figure show the county’s compliance rate is among the highest in Ireland.

As of Friday morning last, over 37,700 Clare homeowners had paid their household charge, a tax which was introduced last year and initially cost 100 euro.

As a result of penalties, this has now risen to 145 euro but after tomorrow, this will rise to 200 euro and the moneys will be collected by Revenue, who will also administer the local property which has replaced this.

Taking into account the 477 people here who have been given household charge waivers, then the compliance rate is 83.4% which is higher than the natioanl average of 80% and is the sixth highest of any local authority area.

However, it’s estimated that over 7500 Clare homeowners here have yet to pay up.

Meanwhile, owners of second residences such as rental properties or holiday homes, are being reminded of the impending deadline to pay the non-principal private residences tax.

The deadline for the annual €200 charge is today, and the moneys can be paid by logging onto www.nppr.ie
