A 76-year-old Kilrush resident is pleading for better protections to be put in place for renters.
Agnes, a retired widow who has been renting in the West Clare town for the past three years, recently received a letter from her letting agent outlining that her rent is being increased by 23% from August.
Clare doesn’t have any rent pressure zones, so landlords can increase their monthly bill in line with the market rate every two years and anyone with a complaint must contact the Residential Tenancies Board to resolve the dispute.
Agnes told Clare FM’s Morning Focus that she’s worried she’s facing another rent hike in two years time and she says she won’t be able to pay it.
