Nearly one quarter of Irish households are jobless.
According to research from the National Economic and Social Council, the number of homes across the country where no-one is working or has limited access to work now stands at 23 per-cent.

This compares with the European average of 11 per-cent.
Jobless households include people who are unemployed, ill or disabled, working in the home and students.
