Absenteeism remains a problem at Clare’s County Hospital, and other hospitals in the Mid West.
New figures from the Health Service Executive show nearly 7% of staff at Ennis General Hospital were off sick on an average day in April, as being unfit for duty on an average day, among the highest reported figures of any hospital in the country.

Nationally, around one in twenty HSE staff report themselves as being unfit each day but the rate is higher at many of the midwest’s medical facilities, including University Hospital Limerick, Clare’s local health office and the region’s maternity and orthopaedic hospitals.
