Moves to use the West Clare Railway as a path for cycling have moved a step closer, with an announcement of funding for phase one of the project.
Four hundred thousand euro is to be spend on a four-kilometre cycle and walking track linking the Wood Quay Car Park in Ennis to the townland of Ballymacquiggan.

It's proposed that this will eventually grow to a 33 kilometre route linking Ennis with Lahinch, via Corofin and Ennistymon, along the route of the dismantled railway.
Ennis local election candidate for Labour Seamus Ryan thinks it will benefit residents and visitors in the town.
