Aer Lingus Unions Reach Agreement To Avert Shannon Lay-Offs

A deal has been struck to avert lay-offs for Aer Lingus staff at Shannon Airport.

The workers were facing being laid off from next Sunday as the airline looks to scale back costs in the wake of the COVID-19 crisis, and the grounding of flights.

But now the company has come to an agreement with trade unions, including SIPTU and Fórsa, which will still see workers endure pay cuts and reduced hours, in line with the fall-off in flights, as well as accepting work practice changes.

It’s understood that the deal won’t be put to a vote among staff.
