Aer Lingus workers defend possible strike

Unions representing Aer Lingus maintenance workers at Shannon say any industrial action which could ground the airline’s fleet should be blamed on the company, and not it’s employees.

A protective ballot for industrial action is to be carried out of maintenance workers at Shannon, Cork and Dublin in response to Aer Lingus’ plans to close it’s maintenance facility at the Midwest airport and transfer operations to Dublin.

This would see 55 Clare-based workers either laid off or forced to re-locate to the capital, something which the UNITE trade union says contravenes their conditions of employment.
