Music, poetry, food and refreshment are all on the menu as the local African community gather to share their rich heritage.

People from at least 20 African countries living locally are gathering at the Civic Building, Waterpark, Drumbiggle to mark the founding of the Organisation of African Unity on the 25th of May 1963.

Abi Ladigbolu explains why it's such and important day for many people.

Members of the Irish community are also being encouraged to come along this afternoon.

Comfort Ofei says the Irish and African people have much in common.

Orla Ni Elli is from Clare Immigrant Support.

She says efforts are continuing all the time to strengthen links between the various communities living in the county.
