The Minister for Agriculture has been warned that it is vital for Clare’s farming industry that some form of disadvantaged area payments are retained under the next CAP reform.
Proposals for the new Common Agricultural Policy, which is due to come in to effect in 2014, were unveiled in Brussels this week but further negotiations will be held on the document.
Minister Simon Coveney has assured farmers that some form of special area payment will be maintained, though he’s not clear of it’s format.

Clare Labour TD Michael McNamara has told the Dail the payments are of major importance to the county’s farmers.
