Clare Beef Plan Chair Criticises Pace Of Work Of Beef Market Taskforce

The Clare Chair of the Beef Plan Movement insists the pace of work with the Beef Market Taskforce is falling far short of what’s needed.

The first meeting of the group was finally held yesterday, some three months on from its establishment, and while some progress was made, no solid commitments have been given.

The IFA called for an immediate increase to the amount farmers are being paid by processors for their beef.

For its part, Meat Industry Ireland says its members will “hopefully” be able to pay farmers more for their product soon.

Quilty farmer Joseph Woulfe, who is an independent candidate in the next General Election, has been telling Clare FM’s James Mulhall that while it’s taking too long to see concrete promises, it’s welcome to see work underway.
