An Austrian National at the centre of an air rage incident which forced a plane to diver to Shannon Airport at the weekend has escaped with a 400 euro fine.
Ennis District Court heard that 3 male passengers had to restrain Harald Albrecht on board a transatlantic flight from Washington to Vienna on Saturday morning.
Gardaí said the 32 year old librarian had taken a sleeping tablet with some wine and became agitated when refused more alcohol.
Albrecht then became abusive towards the flight attendants and at one stage made a lunge for a one of them but did not make contact.
In a statement read out in court the 32 year old apologised to all those on the flight saying he felt deeply ashamed for his actions.
Judge John O Neill said it was a shocking experience for the passengers concerned but the offence was at the lower end of so-called air rage offences and imposed a fine of 400 euro.
