Al-Qaeda Claims Responsibility for Charlie Hebdo Attack

Al-Qaeda in Yemen has released a new online video claiming responsibility for the deadly attack on Charlie Hebdo in Paris.

The group says it was in revenge for publishing cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed – another of which appears on the cover of the latest edition of the magazine, out today.

The Al-Qaeda warning comes as a leading security analayst is describing Ireland as the weakest link as Europe works to tackle terror threats.

Dr Tom Cloonan says the level of information that well known radical islamists have about the American Military's use of Shannon Airport is concerning.

His comments follow concerns rasied by Clare Fine Gael Senator Tony Mulcahy who yesterday said he believes security there needs to be beefed up following last weeks terrorist attacks in Paris.

Dr Cloonan says 2.25 million US troops have passed through the facility in the last ten years and he says this is common knowledge abroad.
