September was a month of extremes in terms of weather in Co. Clare.

The fourth of last month saw an air temperature of 23.9 degrees recorded at Shannon, the highest September temperature recorded there since 2004.

However, the following day saw 38 millimetres of rainfall recorded at Shannon – that's the highest amount on rain recorded at any of Met Eireann's weather stations last month.

That accounted for half of all rainfall in September, which was also sunnier and warmer than normal here in Clare.
