The CSO’s latest vital statistics show the average age of first time mothers in this county is 31.

Between April and June, there were 8 mothers under the age of 20, while 33 were over 40.

There were 147 births registered outside of marriage or civil partnership in the second quarter of the year, representing 42% of all births.

The total number of births, meanwhile, is broadly in line with previous years.

Meanwhile the figures show 233 deaths were recorded over the same period, 116 of those female and 117 male.

Diseases of the circulatory system were the most common cause of death.

There was an equal number of dementia-related deaths for men and women, though three quarters of Alzheimers related deaths were women.
