American ‘Grá’ For Ireland Driving Up Tourist Numbers

A West Clare hotelier says the ‘grá’ American tourists have for Ireland is driving up our overseas visitor numbers.

Latest figures from the CSO show that in the first five months of this year, there was a jump of 7.6 percent in tourists coming into Ireland compared to 2017.

There was also a 12.4 percent jump in those coming from North America and 12.3 percent from continental Europe, though British visitors rose by just 2.4 percent.

In total, 3.8 million visits were made by foreign tourists to Ireland from January until May and General Manager of the Armada Hotel in Spanish Point Frank Minogue says the American visitors in particular are a boost to business.
