Clare Dog Owners Warned To Get Dog License As Numbers Reach 20-Year Low

Clare’s County Dog Warden is expressing shock over a significant drop in the number of new dog licenses issued in Clare.

Figures released by the government show that the number of licenses issued in this county has reached a 20-year low.

Just shy of 1,700 licenses were approved in Clare last year, the lowest number since the 1990s, while it’s well down on over 3,000 in 2017.

Compulsory microchipping came into effect in Ireland in 2016 and Frankie Coote feels this may be playing a role in the falling number of licenses here.
