Water restrictions are set to remain in place for the next four days in Kildysart and Coolmeen.

That means up to 1500 will have been, without a supply for almost eight days.

It's due to the level of maganese in the system.

The local authority has put a plan in place for water tankers to be at Kildysart Secondary School and Coolmeen's hilltop bar for each day.

Irish Water & Clare County Council Statement in Full:

Kiladysert Public Water Supply

Date 01/08/14

On 29th July 2014 the HSE in conjunction with Clare County Council and Irish Water advised as a precautionary measure that water on this scheme is not suitable for drinking due to the discolouration of the water caused by increased Manganese levels in the Public Water Supply.

At this stage the water quality has improved because of the on – going modifications to the water treatment process. The general quality of the water is not yet at a satisfactory level and following further consultation with the HSE it is advised that the water is not suitable for drinking until further notice.

In the interest of public health, it is recommended that all users on the Kiladysert Public Water Supply and the Coolmeen Group Water Supply should not use tap water until further notice except for:

  • Flushing of toilets

  • Flushing of internal house plumbing systems

  • Dishwashing

  • Personal Hygiene

  • Laundry ( High Manganese may lead to staining of clothes but is not a public health risk)

Discard ice cubes in fridges and freezers

Water Tankers will be made available at the locations below, on Saturday 2nd August, Sunday 3rd August, Bank Holiday Monday 4th August and Tuesday 5th August, details of times are also available at Clare FM and on Clare County Council website.
