Anti headshop campaigners battle on despite legal highs ban

The Ennis campaign against headshops says their work isn’t over – even with new legislation  criminalising the sale of legal highs.

Minister for Health Mary Harney announced the criminal ban with immediate effect on a list of these drugs making it illegal to buy or sell mephadrone, spice products and substances which mimic cannabis, cocaine and ecstasy.

Minister for Justice Dermot Ahern also published the main parts of the New Criminal Law, which makes it illegal to sell hallucinogenic products.

However Ennis campaigners are fearful that new substances will replace those that are now banned and say they will continue to battle against headshops.
