Application Made For Burren Car Park

Clare County Council has received a planning application to construct a car park at the site of a former controversial interpretive centre in the Burren.

The National Parks and Wildlife Service is seeking to construct the car park at Mullaghmore near Corofin, on the same site as a centre which was demolished in 2001 following a court action.

The application states the new car park would cater for existing usage and improve visitor safety and congestion problems.

There would be no bin, picnic or toilet facilities in an effort to ensure there is ‘no significant impact’ on habitats in the area.

A decision is due before the end of the year.
