A ballot of Element Six staff for possible strike action will conclude today.
Union representatives say they were left with no other option after talks with management ended with out any resolution on Wednesday.
They centred on the Shannon Sustainability plan to save a number of jobs at the plant and the redundancy deal being offered to the remaining staff.

Workers are angry at the package and are demanding better terms.
However management which is pressing ahead with the rescue plan says their hands are tied on the issue.
The balloting of staff will conclude today and the results expecetd by this evening.
