The body of Deirdre McCarthy was found on Fanore beach, four days after she went missing in March 2011.

The 43-year-old guesthouse worker was last seen after a Sunday night out with friends in Logues pub in Ballyvaughan.

Two years later, in June 2013, 41 year old Colm Deely, from School Road, Ballyvaughan was convicted by a jury at the Central Criminal Court of her murder.

The court heard the father-of-two admit strangling Ms Mcarthy, despite his denial of the murder charge and through his defence counsel, he apologised to all concerned saying he’d intended no harm.

Following his conviction, a mandatory life sentence was imposed.

Colm Deely is now due to appeal the conviction with the hearing listed for June 16th.
